Different Areas of Your Life

You have your lists of wants, balanced in the different areas of your life. You have checked them against your values, and each supports the other. Now, how do we turn those "wants" into meaningful and achievable goals?

Today, take one of your Balance Wheel sections. One that is always important to me is Family. Traveling as much as I do, it would be very easy for me to lose contact with my children and grandchildren. So, one of my goals is to spend time with each of them, and for them to know that I am always available.

Now, it is important to understand the difference between "want to" and "do." "Wants" set up the "do's" in your life, and your goals will need to be written to reflect the "do." So, when my goal is to spend time with each grandchild, I write the goal like this: "I spend quality time with each of my grandchildren. They all know how important they are to me."

Suppose that you are a single mother, trying to balance work and home and family. It is a difficult road to travel, one filled with many choices. You want to spend as much time with your family, but you have to work. Guilt kicks in as you attempt to do it all. Now, thinking of work as a "have to" causes additional stress, which can shadow your work and home time. To remove the "have to" from work would help a lot, so your goal would be written as, "I love the work I do, because it affords me what I need to spend time with my kids."

One final tip: When you write out your "wants" and goals, make sure you write them in the present tense - the future as now. Take out the "going to" and replace it with "I am." You are seeing your future as if it has already happened.

Take each of your Balance Wheel "wants" and turn them into goals for the future, written in the present tense. You have come a long way in the last few days, and have started on the path to a successful 2012!

Yesterday, we talked about the value of setting goals

Yesterday, we talked about the value of setting goals, about how a goal creates a gap that our minds are programmed to close - either forward or backward, depending upon how strong the picture is. This is why change can sometimes be difficult, because the new picture of where we want to be isn't as strong as the need to maintain current reality.

In order to move ahead, to reach goals that we have set for ourselves, we need to make the future picture of what we want more inviting, more attractive, more necessary than staying in our current reality. This is easier than it sounds, because of two things innate in human beings. We have the ability to use "forethought" - looking forward - and to use our imaginations. In other words, we can look ahead and dream of a future. As far as we know, no other creature on earth has these two abilities.

When we set a goal, and create that gap I mentioned yesterday, energy and creativity are unleashed in our minds. Those dreams of the future cause ideas and drive to close the gap - and we are tremendously creative creatures! We can dream of just about anything, and make those dreams reality.

One more piece: As we near completion of the goal or dream, we no longer need the energy and creativity. Drive and ideas disappear. We have closed the gap, and creativity is no longer needed. Effectively, you shut down. You're done. You compare where you wanted to be with where you have landed, and it is the same place, the same answer.

Goal achievement is a time for a little celebration! Each of us deserves a little pat on the back for a job well done. But keep in mind that we now shut down, and future growth is put on hold.

I have one more thought in this 2012 Trilogy. See you tomorrow.

Where am I going

Here is one question that begins to surface for many of us as we find ourselves at the beginning of a new year. It is a very important question that you should ask yourself: "Where am I going?"

If you follow your current direction, where will you be in a year? In five years? In ten? And is that where you really want to go? Be honest with yourself.

Someone once said that the best way to predict the future is to get a very clear idea of what is happening now. We need to do the same thing in our lives.
If you ask yourself this question and you don't like the answer very much, it is important to realize that you have the power to change your direction. You can do it today. In fact, you can do it this very minute, if you really want to.

All that is required is that you choose to change with all your heart, and then you follow through on that commitment with appropriate action, one day at a time.

You don't have to know exactly where you are going or precisely how you will get there. But you do have to have a good sense of when you are moving in the right direction. And how do you know when that is happening? Slow down, take time to reflect, and ask yourself, "Does this feel right?" Then listen for the answer, and make any necessary corrections as soon as possible.

Procrastination

I want to talk about something that is responsible for so many stalled lives, so many setbacks, so much mediocrity and settling for 'less than' what you could have.
This thing kills confidence, self-esteem and momentum and we ALL struggle with it. I'm serious; no one is immune to it...

So what is it? Procrastination!
I have talked about it before - and I'm sure this won't be the last time;procrastination is one of those things that we all need to address from time to time.

I think it's really easy to look at successful, go-getters and people who seem to really make things happen all the time and think that they don't deal with procrastination...that for some reason, they drew the lucky "No procrastination" card when they were born...
That couldn't be further from the truth. The only difference is that they have learned how to handle procrastination when it comes up.

There will always be times that you want to procrastinate, especially when your comfort zone is being pushed and change is on the horizon. What is important at these times is that you know you can handle it.
I know we talk about the Universal Laws of Attraction, Manifesting and Visualizing what you desire, inspired action is an essential element to making all that you desire happen.

The last thing you want is for procrastination to get you out of the flow. So what exactly do you need to overcome procrastination in 2012 and beyond?
I am so excited for all, you'll definitely want to read this to the end, and then - take action. You'll find a link at the bottom that leads you to my site to ask me any personal question about your journey of change, I encourage you to do so and get progressing towards your new life!
  1. Start by writing your goals down.

Great Generation Called the Baby Boomers

There is a great generation called the Baby Boomers, if you were born between 1946 and 1964 you are part of this great generation and we have been leading the world since our post war birth.
All of the 50´s baby clothes, toys and building schools. The 60s toys and children´s clothes, 70s music, tapes, cars. The 80s house purchase boom, foreign holidays, electrical equipment, videos, 90s PCs, digital gadgets, new millennium health and well being as they had families and investments.

We have wanted more, had more, achieved more and created more wealth than in any other time in history. Millionaires, billionaires and the distribution of wealth is far wider than ever before. There is no gender, colour, creed or age barriers, communication and information sharing is global in seconds. We have never been able to pick and choose our lifestyles, careers and family dynamics like we do at this very moment.

We want to live more, see more, do more, travel more, earn more and spend more. In an ever increasing fast world with a throw away mentality, we need to make good choices as to what is right for us and what we really want. Because now it is all possible, but people are still looking for “the answer”, “the opportunity”, “the big break” it is there, inside of us just bursting to get out. Most of the time we just keep on looking at the things we don´t want and then that is what we live with.
Break the cycle, you are powerful, you can join the most successful generation ever, just by changing your thoughts and actions.

Life is a funny old thing

Life is a funny old thing, we cannot choose where or when we were born, we do not choose our parents and we cannot choose who our children will become, mostly we do not hold the control of where and when we die, but things between there we can.

Where ever we are born and whenever, it is the right time for us and making the most of our lives is the most important thing we can do. Not all of us want the same things, for some it is a Bentley for others flying to the moon, being a movie star or just finding happiness in each and every day.
Whatever it is you want, that is fine, don´t be put off by other people and their idea of what is “good” for you. Believe you are worth a great life, act as if you deserve a wonderful life, building your life around your goals and dreams is essential to feel fulfilled and find personal happiness.

Believe in your own personal power, as we are all full of potential which is like supercharged rocket fuel but just like any engine, if you take our foot off accelerator the whole thing slows down or even stops. Keep the pressure on and move forward, just like any journey some of it will be smooth and fast, some will be on winding country roads, but as long as we are heading in the right direction we have to get there sooner or later. People can stop us temporarily only we can stop ourselves permanently.

Keep up the steps moving forward and tomorrow has to be different to today
